The Famous Grouse holds a unique cask selection policy including use of a higher proportion of Spanish sherry casks than their competitors.

Brand History

Matthew Gloag & Son, Limited, makers of The Famous Grouse, was established in 1800 as a family wine and grocery retailer. Named after the Red Grouse, Scotland’s national game bird, The Grouse brand was created in 1896 as a ‘house blend’ to appeal to Victorian sporting gentlemen travelling through the Highlands. So close to home was the brand, that Matthew’s daughter, Phillipa, actually created the original sketch of the renowned trademark. The Grouse brand became so sought after that it was soon renamed The Famous Grouse.

The Famous Grouse is now owned by The Edrington Group, a private, independently owned Scotch whisky maker and is one of the World’s top 10 selling Scotch whiskies. Available in more than 100 countries.

Whats Unique about Famous Grouse?

Made by The Edrington Group, a company solely devoted to making the world’s finest Scotch whisky

Scotland’s favourite Scotch whisky.

Contains a high proportion of malt whisky.

At the heart of the blend are two of the finest Malt whiskies available: The Macallan – the “Rolls Royce of Malts” and Highland Park – acclaimed as the best of the Island Malts.

8735 quality checks are performed from distillation through to bottling
After ageing, all component whiskies in the blend are removed from their casks and blended together before a final 6 months ageing in oak casks. This “marrying” process ensures smoothness and consistency in the final blend and is unique to The Famous Grouse.
