Canadian Club

Canadian Club

CC was originally called “Club Whisky” because of its popularity in the Gentlemen’s Clubs and the better hotels of the day. American distillers insisted that Hiram Walker call it “Canadian” to protect the popularity of their whiskies – thus the name “Canadian Club” evolved.

Brand History

For Hiram Walker, a grocer from Massachusetts who set up business in Windsor, Ontario, the decision to distil whisky was taken only after his first love – home-made cider vinegar – failed to set the world alight. He produced his first barrels in 1854, and they were an immediate hit with customers. So Club Whisky, as he named his new product – the first Canadian whisky to have a brand name and to be sold in sealed bottles – was born.

Canadian Club master blenders still make a smooth, pure whisky exactly as Hiram Walker did back in the 1850’s – using the best ingredients, a time tested recipe, pre-barrel blending and lots of love and patience.

Brand Information

Canadian Club has been the world’s favourite Canadian whisky for more than 140 years and has set the standard for great Whisky.

Canadian Club is sold in more than 150 countries world-wide, more than any other Canadian Whisky and is the number one premium Canadian Whisky brand outside North America.

Canadian Club is not a bourbon or a scotch, it is a ‘Canadian Whisky’ as it takes elements of production from Scotch and Bourbon and creates a unique product.

The predominant grain used to produce Scotch is Barley and Malted Barley (for single malts) whilst bourbon is characteristically produced from at least 51% maize.

“CC” uses all of these raw materials in the production process and is therefore a unique concept to either Scotch or Bourbon – hence the differentiation that it is a “Canadian Whisky”.
